Garden Rooms Glasgow

Garden rooms are elegant outdoor structures that can transform your garden space, and that can be used for a range of different purposes depending on your particular needs and desires.

Do you find that you don’t have enough space in your home to do everything you want to do? Maybe there’s a hobby you’d like to spend more time on, but you don’t have a dedicated area for it. Or maybe you need to get some work done from home, but find it impossible to concentrate with the family moving around and making noise.

Whatever it is you’re after, garden rooms can breathe new life into your property.

Garden Room Ideas

There are a virtually limitless number of different things that you could use a garden room for. If you’re wondering whether a garden room could be something that you would benefit from, consider the following garden room ideas.

Garden Gym Room

As everyone knows, physical fitness is very important. It helps to improve your health, it keeps you energised and upbeat, and it makes you bette able to perform physically in day-to-day life.

At the same time, though, many people aren’t too keen on the gym, either because they don’t like the cramped atmosphere and the need to wait for equipment, or because gym visits don’t work well with their schedule.

So, why not kit out a home garden room gym with a set of dumbbells, a treadmill, and maybe even a wall-mounted TV? That way you have your own personal gym on offer at all times.

Garden Room Office

More and more people are working from home these days, either with regards to their full time jobs, or with regards to entrepreneurial side projects they are working on.

One of the most important things for anyone hoping to work from home successfully, is to have a dedicated work space that’s free from interruption and that helps to support the right professional mindset.

A garden room office can get you in the zone for productivity in a way that working from your dining room table just won’t.

Garden Games Room

Maybe you’d love to play some table tennis on a regular basis, or some pool, or maybe you’d like to really get invested in tabletop gaming, but just don’t have the space in your home for any of these activities without creating too much clutter.

A garden games room can be a great way of adding a bit of extra fun to your home, without cluttering your main living space. You could even set up a garden room as a cosy video gaming den complete with bean bag chairs.

Garden Room Planning Permission Glasgow

As per the the MyGov.Scot website, building a shed, greenhouse, or other building on your property is likely to be covered by a set of rules called “permitted development,” which means that you will not need planning permission.

In order for the structure in question to fall under the permitted development rules, it needs to meet the following requirements:

  • It needs to be located at the back of the house
  • It must not be used as a separate home to live in
  • it, and any other development, must not take up half or more of the ‘curtilage’ – this means half or more of the grounds behind your home
  • The structure must not be higher than 4 metres at its highest point
  • Any part of the structure that is a metre or less from the boundary of your property must not be higher than 2.5 metres
  • The eaves (the part where the wall meets the roof) of the structure must be no higher than 3 metres
  • if the land is in a conservation area or in the grounds of a listed building, the structure must have a footprint of less than 4 square metres

If your garden room doesn’t meet these requirements, or if there is any uncertainty, you should get in touch with your local council to discuss the matter and to apply for planning permission if necessary.

Garden Buildings Cost Glasgow

Garden rooms and garden buildings in Glasgow can vary significantly in cost depending on the size of the structure you want to have built, and also on the specific purposes that you want it to serve.

As a general rule of thumb, a small garden room that can be used as an office space or similar may cost in the region of £10,000, while a larger multi-room garden building may cost something in the region of £17,000, and a Granny Annexe designed for living in may cost in the region of £35,000.
